Android3: Honeycomb Tablet U.I.

Phandroid's " in depth look at what's new in the latest version of Android, Honeycomb, direct from Verizon's 2011 CES keynote presentation."

The walk-through explains some of the user-interface specific for this tablet version of android. For a start no hardware buttons are required such as back and menu etc. giving flexibility for any key configuration.  The software therefore functions in any orientation and reduces the dependence on manufacturers to provide the experience, a shortcoming in the Galaxy S.
Honeycomb develops the widgets allowing most things to be done without even opening an app. These include viewing the latest YouTube hits, checking email, viewing your calendar or selecting a bookmark from your favourites list, all on the home screens.
A Honeycomb homescreen

The look of honeycomb is "futuristic but familiar". Appearing as a 3D interface, controlled by gestures where details "res-in when you need it and de-res when you don't". Personalisation and of the device is easier with the use of a customisation view.
Honeycomb customisation view

The customisation view displays your five home screens as well as providing a pallet where you can preview all of your widgets, app shortcuts, wallpapers and more. These are simply dragged to the desired position.

Also demonstrated was a new look YouTube and the new vector based Google Maps with 3D buildings you can tilt and pan around. Honeycomb versions of browser with tabs "as nature intended" and Gmail app which improve the clarity and control of data we sift through daily.

hTC Wildfire = 1/2 the Desire

HTC Wildfire A3333 GSM Unlocked Smartphone with Android OS, 5MP Camera, Wi-Fi, and Touch Screen--International Version with No US Warranty (Brown)       ≠ HTC Desire Quad-band GSM Cell Phone - Unlocked
          HTC Wildfire                                    HTC Desire
Surprisingly the HTC Wildfire is in the same Telstra price bracket as the HTC Desire. Starting @ $49/month for 24 months Telstra will give you the phone. BUT at the SAME price you may as well take the HTC Desire and get twice the processing power. 1GHz instead of 528 MHz.
The only reason one might choose the Wildfire is because of its smaller size, but there is only a 1cm difference in length and more than that in screen size difference..
I also noted the Wildfires screen is not as sharp as the desires 384k pixels on a compared to  77k QVGA  pixels .

I think the only thing going for the Wildfire is its good looks. I think the silver desires or even a black one would look just as good.  It is however a very male female couple.

Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung I9000 Galaxy S 16 GB Unlocked GSM Smart Phone with 5 MP Camera, Android OS, Touchscreen, Wi-Fi, GPS and MicroSD Slot--International Version with No U.S. Warranty (Black)Samsung I9000 8 GB Galaxy S Unlocked GSM Smartphone with 5 MP Camera, Android OS, Touchscreen, Wi-Fi, GPS and MicroSD Slot--International Version with No U.S. Warranty (Black)Samsung I9000 Galaxy S 8GB Unlocked Cell Phone with Camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth--International Version with 1 Year Warranty (Black)

5 MP Camera, GPS, 4-inch super AMOLED screen

Putting it up there with the HTC Desire and iPhone 4 in terms of CPU speed, the Galaxy S has a 1GhZ Hummingbird processor.

Regretfully the samsung skin, is clunky and only serves to make the Galaxy S even more iPhone like. The dock at the bottom is just like iphone ios, not the best graphics on the icons. Overall the skin seems worse than the stock froyo. The lack of search and home hardware buttons furthur restricts this interface.

However this is one of the few android phones with a front facing camera out now.
